IT seems Redlanders are refusing to tolerate ongoing crime and have made anonymous reports in record numbers to Crime Stoppers in the past year.
Crime Stoppers Queensland released its annual statistics to coincide with Crime Stoppers Day today, February 10.
Chief executive officer Trevor O'Hara said Crime Stoppers Queensland had received 53,421 anonymous calls and 3063 website reports from the Brisbane, Redlands and Bayside communities in the past year.
"(The phone call) reports are up from 49,835 and (website reports are up from) 2096 respectively in 2010," he said.
"That's a seven per cent increase in telephone calls and 46 per cent increase in website reports in one year, demonstrating how the Queensland public trust our organisation to maintain their anonymity and help solve and prevent crime."
He said because of the pubic tip-offs Queensland police had been able to arrest 1795 offenders on 4692 charges in 2011.
"Locally in the Brisbane and Redlands Bayside area, residents assisted with information that led to the arrest of 89 offenders, on charges relating to drugs, weapons, assault, break and enter, stolen property and wanted persons," Mr O'Hara said.
He said one drug related matter in February 2011 led to police seizing more than $328,675 worth of cannabis. Two men were arrested on 12 charges related to the production and possession of cannabis.
A second drug related matter in August 2011, led to the arrest of six offenders on 39 drug and trafficking and supply charges.
