Bay View wins vote for school name

19 Nov, 2009 03:53 PM
THE Redlands' newest school wil be known as Bay View State School.

The school is under construction at Ziegenfusz Road at Thornlands.

Minister for Education and Training Geoff Wilson said the name had been chosen after consultation with community members, prospective parents and local businesses.

Other names considered included Thornlands South, Moreton View, Valesco, Yurara and Quandamooka State School.

"Bay View was by far the most popular, with more than 40 per cent of respondents voting for the name," Mr Wilson said.

The school has been designed with the Queensland environment and sustainability in mind and will feature koala friendly landscaping and a corridor of koala friendly trees.

Mr Wilson said Bay View was among seven new state schools to be designed, built and managed by the Aspire Schools consortium in South East Queensland.

"This PPP project will benefit families and Queensland taxpayers by helping to fast-track the building of these schools, while locking in maintenance funding for 30 years," Mr Wilson said.

The school will be built in two stages, ultimately catering for about 780 students.

I go to Thornlands and I think it's heaps better. And since Bay View came in we've lost a lot of people.
