A 67-year-old man appeared in Cleveland Magistrate's Court yesterday morning charged with the murder of a 68-year-old woman at Wellington Point.
Ivan Slater is accused of killing the woman at a residence in Queensbury Court on Wednesday morning.
He was remanded in custody in Brisbane to reappear in Cleveland court on a date yet to be announced.
It is unknown at this stage how the woman died.
Police found the woman's body after being called to the house at around 9am on Wednesday.
Mr Slater was allegedly found walking in water off Wellington Point Reserve a short time later.
He was found with superficial injuries and was taken to Redland Hospital for treatment in the presence of police.
Regional crime coordinator for the metropolitan south region Detective Superintendent Tony Cross said a crime scene had been established at the Wellington Point home.
"We received a call from a person to the effect that a woman may have been injured at the house.
"From police investigations and the inquiries we made, we found the man at Wellington Point Reserve," Superintendent Cross said.
"We believe the man walked out into the middle of the water and he was subsequently given a lift back to shore in a dingy.
"At this early stage I believe the water police were in the water nearby but I believe it was a member of the public that got him in the boat with police," he said.
