CHOPPER is unashamedly a hard-drinking, potty-mouthed womaniser.
You can read all about him on his Facebook page.
But despite this confession and a yen to occasionally dress as Barbara Streisand, Chopper still gets the girls.
His “mother”, Christine Meehan, dismisses the question of how many girlfriends Chopper has with a laugh and a toss of her hand.
She talks about Aspen Rose Duffy (favoured outfit is a black dress with a hot pink skull and cross bones on it) and Mousie Kitten (an admiral in Napoleon Bonaparte’s army and with a fairly non-convincing French accent) and then she remembers his latest Facebook conquest Maggie da Dogue (currently wearing bikie chick clothing).
Certainly, Chopper’s friends are a colourful bunch and their antics are a constant source of amusement to both Chopper and Christine.
“Chopper makes me laugh every day. He’s my mate and he’s a bit mad – but then so am I. We’re all a bit crazy I suppose. I think I have that crazy gene,” she said.
At age seven, Chopper, a 28kg bull terrier, has 195 friends and daily knocks back requests by more.
“I don’t like to let Chopper have too many friends. I like to keep it small so you can actually get in contact with them at some point.”
Keeping in contact means about three hours of Facebook time each day with Chopper now a dab hand – or paw – at the lingo of canines (bol, for example, means bark out loud).
This he shares with his many and varied friends, including Harley Quinn, a cross-bred redneck hairy dog sporting sunnies and a trucker’s hat; Finnegan McStasha O’Shandy, a golden retriever with a speech impediment; Buffy the dog about town; and Dozer Boticelli.
There are pictures, information, video clips and the usual Facebook information – enough to keep a smile on Christine’s mouth and a ball (or three) in Chopper’s.
“You know he owns his own café. His food tastes terrible.”
His interests include “anything that smells”, favourite song is Who Let the Dogs Out?; favourite movie: 101 Dalmations; favourite book; A Dog’s Life; and his love is peanut butter.
The site reveals that Chopper is also something of a sook, crying at the sound of sirens, is a Buddhist and is easily swayed politically (if you pat him, you’re okay).
The site also brings out his benevolence, with Chopper a member of the Australian gifting group “Random Act of Dog-ness” and always keen to support the RSPCA.
His current charity is for Myron the Wonderdog, a dog without sight who told Chopper he had heard that “he was good looking, although he couldn’t see it himself”.
“Chopper’s a bit of a character. The breed has a beautiful nature but gets a bad rap. He loves everybody. He lies flat on his back like a baby and watches TV with me. I haven’t had the heart to tell him he’s not human. Don’t you tell him,” Christine said.
“People say we are starting to morph into each other. We probably are.”
UPDATE - FEBRUARY 24, 2010
Fans of beloved Facebook dog Chopper Meehan are in mourning, after the popular bull terrier passed away suddenly this week.
Chopper’s “mother”, Christine Meehan, of Redland Bay, said Chopper had died after complications linked to a slow-growing cancer, and that he would be fondly remembered and sadly missed.
