THE Federal Government's proposed carbon tax, an emissions trading scheme and nuclear power stations will be topics on the agenda at an energy forum to be held in the Redlands this month.
The Redlands branch of the Queensland Greens organised the forum, which will follow a similar format to Tony Jones's popular ABC television show Q & A.
More than 100 people are expected to attend to ask questions of a panel of five, which will include Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association's Ross Dunn and academic and environmentalist Drew Hutton.
It is hoped local politicians Capalaba MP Michael Choi (ALP) and Cleveland MP Mark Robinson (LNP) will also be on the panel.
Other issues expected to be raised include the rising costs of electricity and water along with state government policies on mining and coal seam gas.
Greens member and former parliamentary candidate Brad Scott will adjudicate the debate and field audience questions before they are put to the panel.
Organiser and former Greens candidate for Bowman David Keogh said he expected the forum to generate lively debate from all sides of politics.
He said he wanted to put on the event to lift the level of political debate on important environmental issues in the run-up to a State election due in the next 11 months.
"The rising cost of energy and the impact of climate change are key issues for the future," Mr Keogh said.
"Debate on the highly controversial issues of coal seam gas and carbon pricing is currently raging, albeit with too much grandstanding and too little concrete information.
"This is a great opportunity for the public to hear the facts from the experts and to put their questions on these issues to the panel.
"It should be an entertaining evening," Mr Keogh said.

The forum will be held at the Cleveland District High School Performing Arts Centre, Russell Street, Cleveland, on Thursday, March 31 at 7.15pm.
