Hotel proud of being proactive

05 Nov, 2009 04:40 PM
The Wellington Point Hotel prides itself on being proactive when it comes to serving alcohol responsibly.

General manager Scott Hogan whose family has run the popular pub for 45 years, said safety of patrons was a priority at the hotel.

The hotel, which is not on the state's list of high-risk venues, introduced tempered glassware more than a year ago.

Mr Hogan has spent hours handing out 'good behaviour cards' on the front door of the hotel and said patrons IDs were scanned as they entered.

"We also have more than required security guards on Friday and Saturday nights - five for each. Security have head cameras, I have voice recorders in my keys and we stop serving a lot of alcohols after 1am," Mr Hogan said.

"Don't use alcohol as an excuse - it's there for enjoyment and social lubrication."

Glad to hear the Wello is being proactive, but afraid they actually are on the State Govt's hitlist for having at least one glassing-related incident which police attended in the last year: http://www.cabinet.qld.gov.au/mms /StatementDisplaySingle.aspx?id=6 6667 "·Wellington Point Hotel – Wellington Point" Only other Redlands venue on the list is another place that has been phasing out glasses following the alleged fatal stabbing earlier this year: "·Alexandra Hills Hotel – Alexandra Hills"

No the Wellington Point Hotel has actually been removed from that list - recently - following an investigation into why they were put on the list in the first place.
