Readers of The Redland Times have been fired up on Facebook this week, with comments running hot on the latest news in the flashing koala signs saga.
We asked our 'Facebook friends' whether they thought the signs were effective and worth further investment - here's what they had to say:
Kay Danes wrote: "We have one at the bottom of Old Cleveland Road east... it's in the wrong position I think because most people coming down the hill are speeding (they don't see it) and those going up the hill come to it just after going through the lights. The majority of speed by the time you hit the sign is about 30km. Someone didn't give it much thought when they put the sign there obviously!"
And Belinda Dawn Molly asked: "How can the signs be validated when council then grants permission to rip down many koala trees? For example, on Queen Street in Cleveland the old preschool site and Cleveland State school for the new hall building. Trees that were ripped down for both of these projects regularly housed koalas in them and now they are trying to find new places to be. A few times we have had scared koalas scampering around the school and up any available tree. One supposed "right" (the signs) does not fix the wrong of ripping known koala trees down."
