MISS World Australia Queensland contestants Jessica Armitage, of Sheldon, and Courtney Sharp-Jones, of Wellington Point, turned out to serve burgers at McDonald's Capalaba during McHappy Day last Saturday.
McHappy Day is one of Australia's largest annual fundraising events, contributing $1 for every Big Mac sold at MacDonald's restaurants to Ronald McDonald House Charities, which help seriously ill children and their families.
Jessica and Courtney are progressing through the stages of the Miss World Australia Queensland competition, which will be judged in February.
A significant part of the competition is raising money for a dedicated charity.
Both contestants have chosen Youngcare as their primary charity but Jessica said this did not preclude them from raising money for other charities as well.
Jessica said the best part of being a Miss World Australia Queensland contestant was working to assist charities through fund raising.
"Whether it's getting out and organising it myself or helping others, I just like to be there and help in any way I can," she said.
Courtney said she enjoyed volunteering to raise funds on McHappy Day.
"It was good and we got to try lots of new things, like serving behind the counter," she said.
Over the past 17 years, McHappy Day has contributed to numerous Ronald McDonald House programs, including building and maintaing 12 Ronald McDonald Houses across the country, providing temporary accomodation for families of seriouly ill children in hospital.
