READERS have vented their fury at the public transport system following last month’s reports on bus and train services.
Bus passengers called on Veolia Transport Brisbane to introduce more peak-hour services, better timetabling and more express routes.
Rail commuters supported calls for the Cleveland railway line to be duplicated between Cleveland and Manly to allow more services to run and fewer interruptions.
“Micky” from Victoria Point said Redland public transport services were a “total disgrace”. He suggested there were not enough peak-hour bus services and the evening commute was an ordeal.
Music teacher Sharon van der Hurk said her three teenage children relied on the bus services to get to and from work, but often complained about buses that turned up late or did not come at all.
Victoria Point resident L. S. Campbell said a more realistic schedule that allowed more time for passengers to get on the buses would ease stress on bus drivers.
Rail commuter Nina Blackwell, of Cleveland, said the services should keep up with growth in the Redlands and called for the railway line to be duplicated.
“People are already standing at least from Central to Birkdale in the evening and people getting on past Thorneside have no hope for a seat in the morning,” she said.
Bay Island resident Kay Ross described the mainland public transport services as “pretty good overall”. She said the planned Capalaba busway was irrelevant to many southern Redland residents who were better off bypassing Capalaba.
The reader added: “Combining the train with the bus is only for commuters who get perverse enjoyment from missing their connections.”
Bus commuter Paul McGregor said the buses were generally on time, but called on Veolia to provide more regular express buses from Capalaba.
Veolia Transport Brisbane general manager Colin Jennings said last week new buses would be added to the fleet and services would undergo improvements over the next year. He blamed late services on traffic.
Queensland Rail is reviewing its Cleveland line timetable following complaints about longer services. One morning peak hour express train takes a minute longer to get from Cleveland to Central than the all-stations service, because it comes directly after the all-stops train.
