Quest to showcase great local talent

01 Mar, 2010 04:07 PM
IF you think you've got talent, here's your chance to showcase your gifts on stage.

Redlands Got Talent 2010 has just been launched, providing Redland City residents of all ages the chance to share the stage and delight a wider audience than is typical of most eisteddfods.

The event has attracted the support of major sponsors including the Bayside Bulletin, Nottage Financial Services, Liceblaster, Darwalla Milling Company, MDRN Solicitors and Awesome Water.

Redlands Got Talent coordinator, Bronwyn Hope said the event would include the participation of leading judges with credentials tested across a range of the performing arts and acts would be judged on one key criteria only ? overall entertainment appeal.

"We're extremely excited about this year's event as it promises to be a huge event," Ms Hope said.

"The first Redlands Got Talent show was held in 2008 and attracted more than 100 entries. It was a huge hit and helped to uncover some rich talent in our community."

These include winner Kate Stuart, who has since achieved entry to the Conservatorium of Music's chorale program although she is still aged just 15; and runner up, Jal Joshua Lebumfacil, who went on to be runner up in the national competition and is now a popular performer at a range of public events.

Ms Hope said Redlands Got Talent was unique in its approach with the focus as much on personality and popular appeal as technical expertise.

"This is what sets this competition apart and it's the reason why we've uncovered such great performers like Kate and Jal," she said.

Redlands Got Talent offers people the opportunity to enter one of four categories: Song, Dance, Instrumental (Acoustic Only), and an Other or Novelty section that could include, for example, comedy, drama, poetry recitals, circus acts and other art forms.

The competition is divided into two age groups: Liceblaster Junior Category (Aged 5-13) and Nottage Financial Services Open Category.

Prizes of $200 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third place are offered while an additional People's Choice Award is also on offer.

Heats for the new event will be staged at the Somerset Centre at Ormiston College with information on heats and other key information for participants available at www.redlandsgotta lent.com.au.

The finals will be staged on Saturday, May 8, from 11am on an open air stage before an anticipated audience of more than 5000 people throughout the day at Ormiston College's Carnival.
