Redland's recent school leavers who don't get their second preference for a university place today when tertiary offers are handed out are being told not to despair.
Bridging diploma courses are available at TAFE to prepare students who miss out for their chosen university course today.
Minister for Employment and Skills Stirling Hinchliffe this morning urged school leavers and those hoping to pursue tertiary study this year not to give up.
“It’s not the end of the world if you don't get your second round preference today – there are other study options, like TAFE, available to kick start your chosen career path,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
TAFE offers a range of programs and study options in the arts, business, finance, nursing and engineering.
Qualifications from TAFE are nationally recognised and are relevant around the country.
Mr Hinchliffe said completing a TAFE course would increase a student's chance of qualifying for further tertiary study and offer the chance of studying jointly at TAFE and a university in the future.
“The cost of TAFE programs is often considerably less than those programs offered by universities or private training providers due to government subsidies, Mr Hinchliffe said this morning.
“TAFE also offers flexible or blended learning options, including face-to-face, online, independent study, part time, and distance, to fit into anyone’s busy lifestyle.”
