STUDENTS from Sheldon College are competing in the Energex Race Around Ekka School Film Competition.
Capalaba State Member Michael Choi said four teams of budding film-makers from Sheldon College would compete to make the best TV ad for the Ekka today, August 16.
"These students will be racing the clock and competing against teams from 13 other schools around Queensland," Mr Choi said.
"They'll have 24 hours to plan, script, shoot and edit the ad before submitting it for judging.
"The ads must be 15, 30 or 60 seconds in length and pitched at Twixters - that is, young singles who still live at home - as this is a demographic the RNA would like to encourage to the Ekka in greater numbers.
"The teams will compete for cash prizes for the school, with first place awarded $2500, second place winning $1500 and third receiving $1000.
"The winning team will also have the opportunity to attend a session with the Channel Nine television commercial production department," he said.
Mr Choi said the competition winners would be announced on the last day of the Ekka.
"The winning ads will be shown on the big screen during the final night of Ekka, on the Ekka website, Facebook and YouTube," he said.
"This is a great opportunity for these local aspiring film-makers because their finished product could be seen by more than 300,000 people.
"This is a terrific educational experience for these young people and I would like to wish them well as they race around the Ekka."
A Viewer's Choice award will be decided by the public, who will have 24 hours to vote for their favourite ad on the Ekka Facebook page from 7pm on August 17.
Teams in the Energex Race Around Ekka School Film Competition are split into two divisions: junior (years 8-10) and senior (years 11-12).
