Switch off and turn on Earth Hour

15 Mar, 2010 06:09 PM
THE spotlight will be on ways to reduce carbon emissions when Redlands joins in the global Earth Hour initiative on Saturday, March 27.

Earth Hour is a global event that aims to get as many individuals, households and businesses as possible to turn off their lights and appliances as a way of reducing carbon emissions and influencing long-term behavioural change.

As part of Earth Hour at 8.30pm on March 27, Redland City Council will switch off all non-essential lighting in its buildings and host a variety of activities, including the popular free wildlife spotlight tours.

The tours were immensely popular last year, with more than 100 people spotting gliders, possums, flying foxes, koalas and other wildlife.

The tours will again be hosted by extension officers from Redlands IndigiScapes Centre.

The tour starts at 7pm on Saturday, March 27, at the following locations:

Greater Glider Reserve, Alexandra Hills; Judy Holt Bushland Refuge, Birkdale; and Capalaba Regional Park.

Places are strictly limited. RSVP by March 25 to 3824 8611.
