REDLANDS is fast becoming a nursery for cricket talent, with five young players earning state and national selection honours rercently.
They are Jake Kubinek, Daniel Payne, Steven Moss, Marnus Labuschagne and James Pierson ? all talented cricketers who have been involved with the Redlands District Cricket Club, based at Wellington Point.
Steven, Marnus and James were members of the Queensland Under 19 team that won the interstate tournament which concluded in Adelaide last week.
Queensland won the competition, based on statistics, after beating NSW in the final round.
James, a wicket keeper and batsman who captained the team and was among the leading runs scorers, capped the tournament by being named in the champion team from the championships.
James is contracted to the Queensland Bulls under the Rookie program and was a member of the Australian Under 19 team that toured India and Dubai.
He is tipped to gain selection in the 30-man Australian Under 19 team that will contest the World Cup, to be played in Australia in June. Several of those World Cup matches will be played at the Redlands District Cricket Club's grounds at Wellington Point.
Jake Kubknek has been selected in the Queensland Imparja Cup squad that will play an interstate indigenous tournament in Alice Springs in early February.
Jake, a promising indigenous fast bowler, will join four senior cricketers and the remaining under 23 players for the tournament.
Daniel Payne was chosen in the Queensland and Torres Strait Islander XI for the annual clash against the Queensland Academy of Sport, but has had to withdraw from the team.
