REDLAND rhythmic gymnast Naazmi Johnston is on her way to San Jose, California, after ruling supreme at the Pacific Alliance Trials in Melbourne over the weekend.
The Ormiston 19-year-old ranked first on each apparatus including rope, hoop, clubs and ribbon, and was named overall national champion.
Australia’s only 2008 Olympic rhythmic gymnastics representative, Naazmi will now travel to San Jose as part of the three-strong team to compete at the Pacific Alliance Championships from March 28 to 30.
According to Gymnastics Queensland CEO Wayne Hill, all eyes will be on Naazmi’s performance at the Pacific Alliance Championships as a pointer to her Olympic performance in August.
“As Australia’s leading rhythmic gymnast, Naazmi now has the opportunity to make her mark amongst the best of the best from countries like Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria and Italy,” he said.
Naazmi trains at the Moreton Bay College Gymnastic Centre of Excellence.
