Bulldogs to roar

04 Feb, 2010 04:16 PM
THREE A-League soccer coaches will be on hand to share their knowledge at Saturday's sign-on at Capalaba Football Club.

They will bring their own Queensland Roar Rapid Fire Pitch, and everyone will have the opportunity to try it out between 10am-1pm.

All youngsters there at the time also will have a chance to meet the A-League side's mascot Roary, and there will be a full program of promotions and give-aways.

Players can sign on up until 5pm.

Increasing demand from youngsters keen to start kicking a ball almost from the time they can walk has led to the expansion of the successful Squirts program.

Run under the watchful eye of experienced coaches, children from around four years old take part in this fun-filled activity.

Special teams are set aside in the Rooball program for five year olds.

Under 11 training is already under way on Wednesdays from 5.45pm-7.30pm.

In addition to the successful U12, U14 and U16 girl's teams Capalaba is once again fielding a women's side this year.

As part of the club's promotion program for its second year in the senior Premier League, The Bulldogs have announced a special arrangement for local schools.

For every 20 players signing up from each school the club will donate a full kit of soccer balls, bibs and cones.

Director of Coaching Andy Coulson will present these to the school PE teacher, and conduct a training session at the school to demonstrate how to get the best out of the equipment.

The writing is on the wall for the seniors in a timely warning from their 3-1 loss to Ipswich Knights in their final Silver Boots match on Wednesday night.

They turned up expecting an easy win, a fatal mistake which cost them dearly in the 2009 season when they played brilliantly against the top teams but let themselves down badly against weaker opposition.

Danny Ngaluafe scored the only goal.

Brisbane Strikers' 1-0 win over Rochedale would have eliminated them from the semis even had they won.

The seniors head for Toowoomba on Saturday for a pre-season warm-up match on Saturday. Games kick off at 3pm, 5pm and 7pm.

Their encounter with North Star at the weekend ended up as little more than a training run for the firsts who won easily, as did the reserves and the Premier Youth.
