REDLANDS United's Red Devils will be looking for a better performance and result in tomorrow night's game against Eastern Suburbs at Heath Park, East Brisbane.
Last Saturday, the Devils, after a bright 80 minutes where they dominated their opposition, ran out on the wrong side of the ledger.
Tomorrow's game against one of the competition's favorites looms as a real test for the Devils.
The game kicks off at 6pm at Heath Park at East Brisbane, with the reserves at 3.45pm. The Devils' Premier Youth side starts their season at 6.30pm on Friday night against Brisbane Wolves away at Tingalpa.
The Devils Premier League side came from a goal down to take the lead before themselves surrendering the lead when they conceded two goals in the last 10 minutes to go down to Pine Hills at the Cleveland Showgrounds last Saturday night.
Redlands should have taken the lead in the 17th minute when Cameron Draper whipped in a dangerous cross, but Stephen Homer headed just over from close range.
After a period of good possession from Pine Hills, Redlands again came close to opening the scoring again only to see Ryan Pearse save well from a Russell Woodruffe header from close range.
Football can be a funny game and that was proven when a quick counter saw Devils shot stopper Mitch O'Brien race off his line and clip the Pine Hills forward while diving for the ball.
Match referee Jacquie Melksham pointed to the spot and then Mark Battistin stepped up to give Pine Hills a 1-0 lead.
Within five minutes the Devils were on level terms when Russell Woodruffe delivered a perfect ball into Jesse Lindemann, who took a touch away from a Hills defender before drilling the ball past Ryan Pearse.
With seven minutes remaining in the half Redlands should have been awarded a penalty when a clear hand ball in the Pine Hills penalty box went unpunished despite, it appeared, everyone bar the referee spotting it.
In the second half, in the 65th minute, Jesse Lindemann split the Hill's defence with a well weighted pass into Graham Fyfe's path and after a couple of touches forward the Devils wide man slotted an angled shot past Pearse.
With 10 minutes to go a long ball was played down Redlands left flank and when the cross was played in, lone Redlands defender Cameron Draper found himself with two Pine Hills players bearing down on him, one of whom was Mark Battistin who took a touch before slotting under the outrushing Mitch O'Brien to level the scores up.
With five minutes remaining Pine Hills won the game when Tim Lawson ran on to a flick on from Mark Battistin and used his pace to round Mitch O'Brien before finishing off.
After the whistle, Devils assistant coach Dave Thorogood said: "We are very disappointed. After going a goal down against the run of play, we came back to take the lead before throwing the win away in the last 10 minutes."
In the early game, the Devils Premier Reserve side ran out convincing winners 5-3 over Pine Hills.
