MASON Harris, of Wellington Point, has his sights set on becoming the next goal keeper for the Under 15s Queensland outdoor hockey team.
The 15-year-old Redlands College student recently returned from Wollongong where he played goal keeper for 10 days of indoor hockey with the under 15s Queensland side.
He said he would be training hard this year to make the outdoor team.
"I chose to be a goal keeper when I was 11 because my team did not have one. I realised I was good at the position and have stuck with it ever since," Mason said.
His team was placed third on the ladder behind winner New South Wales and Victoria which finished second in the competition.
"NSW beat us by three goals - it was four to one in the final against them," Mason said.
Mason said to play indoor or outdoor hockey, coordination and confidence were among the skills needed to play.
"During training for Wollongong I got hit a few times on the collarbone - where there is no padding - but it was just bruised."
