SPIRITS were high at Capalaba State College senior campus when the college recently hosted a wheelchair sports day.
Capalaba State College special education teacher Gerard Feltoe said 24 students from six schools across the bayside and adjoining areas attended the event.
The objectives of the day were for students to enjoy and participate in new sporting activities, to develop new friends and to enhance competition.
"The kids were really revved up over it," Mr Feltoe said.
"The day was divided into two sessions, with the first one being skills development, understanding rules and team building exercises.
"The second session was for putting those skills into practice."
Mr Feltoe said a concert held between the two sessions provided students with an opportunity to enjoy some cultural aspects of the college.
"It's the first time we've done this," Mr Feltoe said.
"When the kids came into the hall, they were straight into it with no hesitation at all.
"It was a very successful day and the students want to repeat it.
"We hope to do this four times a year at different schools."
Mr Feltoe said the day was supported by local businesses and the Wheelchair Sporting Association.
