REDLANDS Districts Rugby League is looking forward to an exciting season in 2010 with the announcement of its new coach, former Crushers, Roosters, Newcastle Knights and Redcliffe premiership captain Craig O'Dwyer.
O'Dwyer brings with him a wealth of experience to the club having played the highest level of footy and he has been coached over the years by some of the best in the game, including Jack Gibson, Mark Murray and while at Newcastle under former Great Britain international, Malcolm Reilly.
O'Dwyer will this year be assisted by former Canterbury Bulldogs player, Dallas McIllwain.
McIllwain, a former Redlands junior, was coached by Manly premiership coach, Des Hassler while he was at Manly Warringah and before returning to Brisbane and spending a year with Brisbane East Tigers under the guidance of Michael Booth.
From there Canterbury Bulldogs signed McIllwain and he had three very successful years with the Doggies and was one game short of an NRL grand final appearance when they were beaten by the Broncos in 2006.
Craig O'Dwyer is looking forward to working with the young players within the club such as Myles Henderson, Dylan Yates, Dale Waters and Zac Issacson who have shown plenty of potential in their first year of senior football.
O'Dwyer is keen to help in the development of the under 16 and 18s age groups as they begin their preparation into their senior football years.
Redlands will next year be fielding three teams in the in the Brisbane competition with O'Dwyer and McIllwain coaching their premiership side, last year's coach, John Hillian Jnr coaching the Open 3s and also an Under 20s team with a coach yet to be decided.
Training for all players starts on Saturday, November 7 with a barbecue to follow on afterwards.
Players interested in attending the training session or finding out further information on the 2010 season can contact Craig O'Dwyer on 0412 624 822 for more details.
