The World Series All-Stars were victorious in what turned out to be a nail-biter of an exhibition Fastpitch match against the Queensland Invitational side at Ormiston.
Shane King drove in the winning run in the top of the 8th innings tie-breaker for the All Stars to take the game three runs to two.
Earlier in the match the invitational team had a strong start scoring its first two hitters off the back of some sub-par fielding to take an early 2-nil lead in the first innings.
Corey Matakatea doubled to drive in Johnno Whitefield, who had singled, and Benny Trindle, who walked, to open the scoring.
Shaun Marino did well in defence for Queensland striking out eight while conceding no hits or runs against him.
Despite his impressive performance, in the true and innovative spirit of an exhibition match, Marino was replaced by young Queenslander Aaron Clarke to involve more pitchers in this spectacle.
The pitching staff for the All-Stars were equally impressive with Thomas Cameron striking out eight and Terry Downes five.
The All-Stars answered one early run in the top of the fourth innings with Zenon Winters going deep, but foul, and then driving a ball to centre field scoring the speedy Josh Davison from second base and clawing back the lead to just one run.
Best batter of the game and in-form Great Britain representative Richard Devey bounced one off and over the top of the right field fence for a solo home run to tie the game up in the top of the fifth innings.
The game was tight with Julian Jemmott a stand out for the maroon team making a number of outstanding plays in the field.
At the end of the regulation seventh innings, the game was all tied up and entered the tie-breaker.
In the top of the eighth the true class of the World Series All-Star team showed with former powerhouse hitter Shane King sacrifice flying to bring in current Australian representative Josh Davison and go one run up.
In response against the pitching of World Series Australian team member Terry Downes the Queensland team managed to advance their runner to third base but could not convert this being denied a run by a spectacular diving play by Zenon Winters to seal the victory.
The All-Stars had clinched victory three runs to two and the crowd had witnessed a fantastic game of exhibition Fastpitch.
The All-Stars were also awarded all three individual awards with Shane King MVP, Richard Devey best batter and Zenon Winters play of the game.
In the pre-game entertainment challenges Thomas Cameron won the fastest pitch award recording 125km/h, while Zenon Winters won the longest bat launching five home runs from 10 pitches in the home run derby.
This weekend is another big weekend of softball in the Redlands with the junior President's Cup starting at 8.30am on Saturday at Ormiston, with A-grade men at 1.15pm and the A-women at 3.30pm.
