DESPITE the restrictions imposed on training by the recent rains, the excitement and enthusiasm among the Southern Bay Cyclones Senior players continues.
In recent days too, the news from Rugby Headquarters at Ballymore indicating a competition start of March 24 is now putting added pressure on the coaching staff and players to be ready to play in seven weeks.
It is imperative therefore that any returning or prospective player come to training as soon as possible.
The competition will be one of 18 rounds split evenly with nine home and nine away games. The competition also has three "bye" weekends and the grand final is scheduled for Ballymore on September 1.
Formal nominations for the competitions close on March 2 and club management is keen to see the senior team go one step better and make the semi-finals in 2012, having narrowly missed out last year.
The senior club has already commenced training at Sel Outridge Park Redland Bay on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6.30pm.
Opportunities exist for new rugby players in the area to become part of a competitive but traditionally social rugby club.
Anyone interested in joining this playing group should attend training as above or contact Peter McFerran on 0419 735 108 as soon as possible.
Gearing up for the new and exciting 2012 junior rugby season (under 6 years to under 15 years), the new club president, Ian Smits is working tirelessly with his committee.
The club is confident that there will be an influx of new children keen to try rugby.
The dates for the junior club sign-on are February 11-12 at Charlie Buckler Memorial Sportsground, Redland Bay from 10am - 2pm, February 18 at Victoria Point Shopping Centre from 10am-3pm and February 19 at Charlie Buckler Memorial Sportsground, again from 10am-2pm. With grading trials due in mid-March, club training will formally commence on February 16. Contact number for the junior club is Ian Smits on 0405 358 685.
