FISHING conditions are improving following heavy rain and local flooding.
Some great catches have been reported, especially in the estuaries.
The rain has flushed quality bream out of hiding with the best catches from deeper holes and around structure like bridge pylons and rock walls.
Live yabbies drifted close to the snags with little or no lead as well as dark coloured lures and plastics have been productive.
At Jumpinpin they have been caught from undercut mangrove banks anywhere from the Slipping Sands, around the south western tip of North Stradbroke Island to Kalinga Bank and the eastern face of Short Island into Cobby Passage.
The mainland foreshores around the Wynnum and Manly areas have also produced good catches, while lots of bream have been caught in the shallows around the bay islands, especially early before daylight or in the early evening.
Whiting catches are also improving with some good quality 40cm plus fish on the bite.
The council chambers in the Nerang River continues to produce fish, even in these conditions, as do all the river mouths flowing into the western side of the Broadwater.
At Jumpinpin, the better whiting catches are coming from Tippler's Straight, the top end of Tiger Mullet Channel and from Middle Banks between Crusoe and North Stradbroke.
Tingalpa Creek mouth and the waters around King Island are fishing well for whiting and while good catches have been reported from the mouth of Ningi Creek in Pumicestone Passage.
Flathead are hotting up, especially around the mouth of rivers and creeks and on the edge of channels in Moreton Bay.
