Softball fever hits

REDLANDS' love of softball will reach fever pitch when the Softball Festival is held locally this month.

The event will be held at the Redland Softball Association (RSA) grounds at Ormiston on Sunday, March 25.

A junior T-ball tournament, open age Ozpitch competition, as well as raffles, showbags, refreshments and a jumping castle will add to the festive atmosphere of the day.

The purpose of the event is to engage Redlands' large community of current softball players and encourage them to draw other members of their networks to the sport.

No prior playing experience is required of participants.

Registration for participation closes on Friday, March 16, and forms can be found under the Events tab at www.qld.softball.org.au

The cost of registration is $15 for kids; participants aged from 4 to 12 years, $12 per member of a kids' team, $20 per adult, $15 per member of an adults' team, and $54 per family of four; consisting of two kids and two adults.

Meanwhile, RSA's talented softball players have arrived home from the nationals with bronze.

Male and female players competing for the Queensland Heat and Queensland Patriots teams all brought home bronze medals from the finals of their respective national championships.

Queensland captain Jason Nathan competed alongside his Redland teammates William Bailey, Andrew Blackshaw, Guy Covacin, Shaun Goffer, Julian Jemmott, Darren Pyke and Luke Van de Griendt for the Patriots.

Redlands' Megan Blake, Sheridan Darroch and Jade Wall competed for the Heat.

Jade Wall's outstanding performances throughout the four-month tournament were also recognised with her receiving selection in the Australian team to compete in a series against Japan in Canberra next month, ahead of the 2012 Women's World Softball Championship in July.
