Birkdale man seriously injured after vicious assault

POLICE are asking the public for help after a 55-year-old Birkdale man was assaulted and left with a fractured skull in Collingwood Road.

Around 8pm on Sunday the man flagged down a noisy sports car that had been repeatedly driving down Collingwood and Birkdale Roads.

The car stopped on Kensington Place and four men exited the car to confront the man.

A verbal argument ensued before one of the men punched the 55-year-old in the face, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on bitumen.

It is believed the four men punched the man several times while he was on the ground, before fleeing in the vehicle eastbound along Collingwood Road.

The men are described as of Middle Eastern appearance with muscular builds and were wearing singlets at the time.

The 55-year-old was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment to head injuries including a fractured skull.

Anyone who may have information or who may have knowledge of the vehicle involved is urged to contact police via Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
