Crunch time for Thomas

IT'S crunch time for Redland gymnast Thomas Pichler who has one last chance to make the London Olympics in July.

Due to unexpectedly low scores at previous qualifying events, the Australian male Olympic gymnastics team has been reduced to just one place, and Pichler is locked in a battle with a close mate for that spot.

"The Australian Gymnastics Championships will be my last chance to show the selectors if I have what it takes to represent Australia at the Games," Pichler said.

"As it stands, I am still in a one-on-one battle with training partner and good friend Joshua Jefferis, with only one of us going to the Olympics.

" I will be competing on all six apparatus on May 24 and 26 with the selection announcement being made in early June."

The championships will be held in Sydney's Olympic Park and will combine five gymnastics sports.

Across all gymnastics sports, Australia has only qualified eight places.
