Four hurt in brawl at footy match

STRADBROKE Island police are investigating a brawl between local and visiting spectators at the Straddie Sharks Allsports Club on Saturday, May 12.

Officer in Charge of Dunwich Police, Sergeant Peter Twort, said a fight had broken out between at least eight people at about 4.30pm.

"Four of those people had to be hospitalised with various injuries, such as broken arms and jaws," he said.

"The fight happened after the senior game in front of families and children.

"It's a shame that the behaviour of a few can inconvenience that of the local football team, club and the broader community."

Sgt Twort said one game had been cancelled while police and club office considered strategies to ensure public safety.

Anyone with information that may assist police with their investigations can phone Dunwich police on 3409 6020.
