WHAT are you doing to help the Redlands, this wonderful state of Queensland and our great country to stave off the negativity, recession and financial downturn that is plaguing parts of the world?
The answer is in positiveness. Supporting our community, our state and the nation through attending events, joining in community activities and lending a hand is the way to generate and maintain vitality.
A multitude of worthy events are held in the Redlands each week and many are free or low cost. All they need are people to turn up and lend their support.
Whether you are attending a function on beautiful North Stradbroke Island, a play at one of the many industrious local schools, dining in a quality restaurant, enjoying entertainment in the city's clubs or night spots, or simply sipping a cup of coffee at a cafe, participation is the key to the district's growth and success.
As well, we have the Redlands Performing Arts Centre ? a venue that is growing in stature across the state ? with its ongoing range of high quality and entertaining productions.
A free afternoon was held on Sunday at Indigi- Scapes where activities celebrated World Environment Day in conjunction with the Redlands Folk Festival of Music featuring Vicki O'Keefe, the daughter of legendary Australian rocker Johnny O'Keefe.
Several young people from the Redlands spread the word further afield at the weekend whey they attended the One Night Stand music event at Dalby, whereby bringing support and positiveness to the business community of this small township.
Worthy events are held regularly in the Redlands, across Queensland and throughout other states of this great country and all need the support of positive, inquisitive people all willing to join in and lend a hand.
The words of the late US president John F. Kennedy during his inauguration speech on being sworn into office on January 20, 1961, "Ask not what your country can do for you ? ask what you can do for your country", are still very appropriate when a community, state or nation is enduring challenging times.
Positive attitudes and support are key ingredients to creating strength in our community and country. Each of us has a responsibility to take up this challenge and get involved. The rewards will be great.
