MSIT's Alexandra Hills campus is open for business and enrolling students for 2013

Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE's (MSIT) has confirmed all six campuses, including Alexandra Hills, will be open and enrol students for 2013 as it works with the Queensland Government to implement reform of the TAFE sector.

MSIT Institute director Kaylene Harth welcomed the response from the state government and the clear direction it provides for MSIT campuses.

"The reforms are essential to secure the viability of the TAFE sector in Queensland," Ms Harth said.

"Our sector is ready, willing and able to deliver the skills and training that the state economy needs, and the reforms are paramount in delivering a stronger and more productive TAFE.

"In his announcement, the Minister of Education, Training and Employment, John-Paul Langbroek, made it clear he would work with the community as the government seeks to consolidate the state's campuses."

She said the TAFE sector's ability to be innovative and market driven will require MSIT to get the balance right between business needs and the conditions of its staff. A transition plan will include detailed workforce planning to be developed inclose consultation with staff and union representatives.

"The Alexandra Hills campus is currently delivering training to more than 3000 students across eight study areas. We are continuing to enrol students in our wide variety of industry linked programs in 2013.

"Throughout the period of change, MSIT will work with other Queensland TAFE providers to ensure continuity of education to all our students.

"Whatever the changes, students are assured that they will be able to complete their courses in the TAFE sector beyond 2013."
