Glamour of yesteryear set to sparkle

http://www.misspinupaustralia.com.au/ THE glamour surrounding the silver screen sirens of the 1940s and the bevvy beauties of the 1950s are being recreated this Saturday at the Queensland Finals of Miss Pinup Australia at the Wynnum RSL.

The organisers promise to "bring a vintage photograph to life" on stage recreating life and fashions of the 1940s and the 1950s through a theatre spectacular.

Miss Pinup Australia says it celebrates all women, real women in every age, shape and size and takes into account the true lover of time honoured outfits and a modern interpretation on pinup.

The 2013 categories are Miss Perfect Pinup (any gal over 18), Miss Classic Pinup (gals over 30), Miss Prestige Pinup (gals over 40), Miss VaVa Voom Pinup (gals over a modern dress size 14), Miss Illustrated Pinup (gals with tattoos), Miss Neo Pinup (the modern day pinup) and a category for the gentlemen, Mr Pinup.

The organisers say there are sensational storylines in the four clothing categories of daywear, swimwear, lingerie and evening wear.

"We even have a talent section and our competitors will have you cheering, laughing and maybe even a few tears."

One of the entrants goes under the name of Miss Kitty Sapphire and she is a finalist in the Miss Classic Pinup category.

Miss Kitty entered not knowing what to expect.

"But I knew that I would have a great time. I have met some amazing women who all have amazing stories some of us have done this to boost our confidence; some of us have done this to help overcome adversity and some have done it purely for our love of vintage."

She said Miss Pinup Australia was not a beauty contest or a fashion parade.

"I think this year's motto says it perfectly 'bringing a vintage photograph to life'. It's classy," she said.

In her biography, Miss Kitty said growing up with her mum, the biggest Elvis fan, provided plenty of inspiration.

"This is undoubtedly the era for feeling like a woman and there is no better feeling. There are so many strong women to draw inspiration from, my favourite Ava Gardner strong, beautiful and proud.

"I think that this is something that draws on the old fashioned values, which I was raised with," Miss Kitty said.
