THE Dunwich community on North Stradbroke Island is rallying around Hetty and Brian Conlon, the Dunwich Post Office licensees after the weekend robbery and fire that destroyed the post office and their home.
Community leaders and businesspeople are meeting to decide how best to help the couple, whose home and business was destroyed by the fire early on Saturday morning.
Already there is an online appeal at www.mycause.com.au/DunwichPostOffice
It is expected that other fundraising events will be held soon to support the couple.
Mayor Karen Williams has lent her support to a public appeal and she is in contact with community leaders at Dunwich.
Australia Post is holding the Dunwich mail at the Point Lookout Post Office but no arrangements have been made as yet for other services provided at the post office such as banking.
