THE past few weeks have been action-packed for the Redlands United Red Devils with the international friendly against the Papua New Guinea World Cup side, a couple of daunting away Veto League games and a mid-week home Canale Cup encounter.
The Red Devils welcomed last week’s break and are eagerly looking forward to this weekend’s Round 15 clash in the Brisbane Veto League at the Cleveland Showgrounds on Saturday, June 16, against the North Pine Gorillas.
The side is beaming with confidence after the last start powerful 3 - 2 away victory over league powerhouse, Peninsula Power.
The Devils are looking to continue their winning ways against the inconsistent North Pine.
International football came to the Redlands when the Red Devils hosted the Papua New Guinea World Cup side prior to the start of PNG’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
This was a top encounter played in front of a good vocal crowd and a great moment for the Redlands players.
Last start in the Veto League both the Red Devils and the Veto Reserves completed the double over Peninsular Power, away from home, with well deserved 3-2 victories over one of the competition’s power houses.
Power had their moments but in general, were outplayed by the Red Devils in both grades.
Mid-week the Red Devils played host to Taringa Rovers in the Canale Cup in an extra time nine goal thriller.
On the Veto League ladder Redlands are now four points clear in third place and looking to extend that this week against North Pine.
North Pine may be sitting in 13th place but they always provide a tough encounter and are a real threat.
The games between the two clubs have always produced typical hard fought battles and Saturday’s games are expected to be no different.
Both teams are capable of obtaining a result on the night. Join the crowd at the Cleveland Showgrounds and cheer the Red Devils with the Red Army. The Veto League kicks off at 6pm and the Reserves at 3.45pm.
