Former Redland Shire Council chief executive Susan Rankin has been appointed as council’s interim CEO and will start on July 4.
Ms Rankin will serve in the position from July to October taking over the position left vacant after Gary Stevenson’s contract was not renewed last week.
Ms Rankin has also been commissioned to head the recruitment drive for a new, permanent chief executive.
Redland City mayor Karen Williams said Ms Rankin had a solid "working knowledge" of the city and its challenges and extensive local and state government experience.
“We are facing a crucial 12-to-16-week period with the delivery and implementation of the first Williams council Budget, the return of Redland Water, and a new state government to deal with. I am pleased to have Ms Rankin's expertise assisting council during these times and also grateful to have her expert input into the recruitment process.”
Cr Williams said using Ms Rankin’s skills to manage the CEO recruitment process would save council about $60,000 in external recruitment fees.
After her contract with Redland City Council was not renewed in 2008, Ms Rankin has worked as a company director and consultant and has done some work consulting to local government across the state.
She also worked as program director for the SEQ Council of Mayors and led negotiations with the former state government on the water reform process, managing due diligence and legal aspects.
