MOVE over Lady Gaga, Victoria Point's Marcia Foley is stepping into the fashion world and has the school holidays all sewn up.
She is ready to teach teenage girls how to make the most out of the school holidays, which started on Friday, using old clothes, furniture, junk and anything else she can get her hands on.
Ms Foley is holding a recycling workshop in the second week of the holidays to encourage girls to get in touch with their creative side and sew up a fashion storm.
Many Redland girls are already acquainted with recycled haute couture and are part of a group who meet regularly at Ms Foley's Fashion Kulcha headquarters to recycle their wardrobes.
Students from Kimberly College, Victoria Point State High School, Thornlands State School, Faith Lutheran and Carmel College have already created some amazing ensembles using recycled materials such as plastic gutter guards, plant leaves and Zarraffa coffee labels.
"Everything the girls used in their garments was recycled," Ms Foley said.
"One girl made a very different dress using old shoes, their leather soles and gutter guard.
"You could never buy something like that in any fashion store.
"It's great to see how creative people can be and it's also a good way to make something useful out of stuff that would otherwise be thrown out," she said.
Retailers at the centre will donate recyclable materials and bubble wrap to the workshop and Ms Foley will also contribute pamphlets she collected from a doctor's surgery that closed down.
Members of the public can see the magnificent ensembles when the girls hold recycled runway shows and model their designs at two catwalk parades at the centre.
Recycled on the Runway Parades are at 6.30pm on Thursday, July 5, and at 1pm on Saturday, July 7.
Girls who would like to try their hand at the free workshop, which will be held at Victoria Point Shopping Centre from July 2, must book with centre management on 3820 8100.
Morning workshops will be held outside the Coffee Club from Monday, July 2, to Saturday July 7, from 10am to 12pm.Afternoon sessions will be held from 1pm to 3pm Monday to Friday.
