Two hold-ups in 24 hours

POLICE are hunting two gunmen after separate holdups in the Redlands in less than 24 hours.

On Thursday, a man in his 20s, armed with a handgun, held up a bottle shop in a shopping complex on Island Outlook Avenue, Thornlands at 6.45pm. The gunman threatened two female staff before leaving on foot with money.

He is described as being in his 20s.

On Friday, the ANZ Bank on Bunker Road, Victoria Point, was held up. A man walked into the bank, produced a hand gun and demanded cash from a bank teller at 2pm. He is described as in his late 50s and Caucasian. His face was covered by a jumper and dark sunglasses.

He left with money in a bank bag.

No one was physically injured in either robbery.

Wynnum District Police tactician Senior Sergeant Tony Brown said police believed the armed robberies were unrelated.

"Bank robberies are very rare for the Redlands and to have two armed robberies in two days was just a coincidence," he said.

Snr Sgt Brown said there had been four bottle shop robberies in Wynnum District since September last year.
