TRAVEL back in time when the renowned Abbey Museum hosts its annual medieval tournament this weekend - July 7-8.
Medieval times inspire the fantasy and fiction and the festival is the place where history and fantasy merge.
Knights in shining armour, fair maidens, archers, jousters, Viking raiders and traders bring history alive.
The medieval tournament is held over an entire weekend to present the spectrum of medieval experience. You’ll see jousting tournaments, falconry, medieval villages, authentic medieval costumes, swords and shields, puppet shows, gypsy dancing, Turkish oil wrestling.
Visit the Friar’s Folly Tavern for mead and medieval music and a medieval market offering an array of food and trinkets.
Visitors will be able to see more than 30 re-enactments, depicting representations of medieval life.
The festival is run by volunteer staff to raise money to preserve and maintain the Abbey Museum’s
collection.
