A RESCUE mission of a different kind was played out at the Mount Cotton Scout Group recently when volunteer rescue groups undertook field assessments.
Taking part were the Queensland Police Search and Rescue mission coordinators and the Redland State Emergency Service.
Wynnum District Water Police senior constable Justin Dunn said the two teamed up for the assessments and to further develop the role emergency services played when Queenslanders were lost.
"Both state and territory police are responsible for coordinating the search and rescue efforts for people missing in both land and marine environments," he said.
"Police, when coordinating searches for missing people rely heavily on volunteers such as the State Emergency Service, Volunteer Marine Rescue and the Coast Guard."
He said the EMQ Brisbane Region Land Search Instructors provided the opportunity for the SES volunteers to work with the police and fellow trainers.
"It was a great day for all and a valuable training experience," he said.
