Brass by the bay

A quintet of brass players from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra will strut their stuff at an informal outdoor concert on the grassy waterfront at the Little Ship Club, Dunwich, this Sunday, July 29, at 11 am,.

Lauren Manuel (horn), Michael Rogers and Mark Bremner (trumpet), Michael Sterzinger (tuba) and Benjamin Marks (trombone) will be playing classic quintet music such as a selection from Bernstein's West Side Story suite, one of Susato's Renaissance dances, Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer", Joseph Horovitz's Music Hall Suite, Michael Kamen's beautiful Quintet and even that old brass favourite the "Colonel Bogey March".

The brass quintet will be joined by Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival personality Louise King and her "cello partner in crime", visiting Dutch cellist Eric de Wit, who will be showing off with virtuosic cello duos.

And after the concert there'll be time for a lunch of trawler-fresh seafood from the Little Ship Club bistro (lunch 12noon-2pm, res. 3409 9022).

Concert tickets are $25 full price, concessions $20 (Centrelink clients and 4MBS subscribers). Children and student pass holders - free. For more information, visit
