Here’s a crafty way to learn new skills

THE Anglican Parish of Cleveland is offering crafts-loving women an opportunity for a crafts weekend away in the bush.

Now in its fourth year, the Golden Hands Craft Weekend, to be held at Kindilan Outdoor Education and Conference Centre, corner of Days and German Church roads, Redland Bay from Friday, August 31 to Sunday, September 2, will offer a choice of nine crafts and a weekend of networking and fellowship with other crafts lovers.

Organiser Carole Reedman, of Ormiston, said the idea of the weekend was for participants to choose one craft they would like to learn and then to immerse themselves in it, under the guidance of an expert craftswoman, and emerge from the weekend with a completed item.

The crafts on offer will include jewellery, rag-matting, patchwork, art, counted cross-stitch, embroidery, making an elephant skin bag or a fun parents' or grandparents' survival kit from household items, or take a work in progress and sit in with one of the groups.

A silent auction of craft items will also be held on the Saturday night, with the money raised going to assist the ministry of Reverend Yulki Nunggumajbarr in the Diocese of the Northern Territory.

Attendance is $200 for a motel-style, twin room, or $140 for day visitors.

Craft kits will cost between $5 and $25 (payable to the tutor).

Places are limited and registration must be received by July 30.
