Devils keen to beat Rovers

THE Redlands United Red Devils make the journey out to Taringa this weekend to take on Taringa Rovers in Round 21 of the Brisbane Veto League.

Although Taringa are languishing in 11th place on the competition table, they are extremely hard to beat at home.

The games will be played at Jack Speare Park, corner Fairley Street and Lambert Road, Indooroopilly, at 5pm on Saturday, July 28, with the Reserves playing at 2.45pm.

Devils are in good form leading into this game, so if you can make it, head out to Indooroopilly for this clash.

At Cleveland Showgrounds last Saturday the Red Devils laid down their title credentials with a hard-fought victory to complete the double against Rochedale Rovers in front of a very large and vocal home crowd.

It wasn't until the second half that the scoring started.

Red Devils' right back Marama Thompson brought a Rovers player down in the box.

Referee Alan Milner had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, which Satoru Okubo converted.

Within two minutes the Red Devils were on level terms when Milner again pointed to the spot at the other end. This time Graham Fyfe stepped up to tie the game up.

Rhys Meredith put the Red Devils ahead in the 75th minute when he went across two Rovers defenders on the edge of their penalty box before drilling his shot home.

Rochedale equalised within two minutes, but they were dealt the killer blow when influential substitute Jheison Macuace was adjudged to have been fouled as he drove into the Rochedale penalty box and, for the third time, Alan Milner pointed to the spot.

Fyfe again stepped up and calmly drilled the ball home.

The Red Devils Veto Reserve side lost 2-nil to Rochedale.
