CAPALABA resident Ena Govett (nee Gager) recently celebrated her 100th birthday with more than 120 family and friends in an afternoon tea at Capalaba Soccer Club.
Ena was born on July 12, 1912, in Runcorn.
The Brisbane girl married Frank Govett in February, 1933, and the couple lived at South Brisbane.
Frank, who passed away in 1985, worked in the ammunitions building in Brisbane during World War II, and later worked on the wharves in Brisbane.
Throughout her life, Ena has enjoyed interstate travel and travel to New Zealand and throughout Australia, and she still plays bingo each week at Sharks Sporting Club, Victoria Point, where her special birthday was also celebrated with a cake.
Her daughter Joyce Taylor said Ena loved to garden.
"She gardened until she was 94, and was still mowing her own yard at that age too," Joyce said.
Ena has four children, 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great great-grandchildren.
