Laming’s 24-7 labour of love

FEDERAL MP for Bowman Andrew Laming said the latest addition to his family was truly a "24-7 baby".

Mr Laming was speaking after the birth on Tuesday of his second daughter, Isobel Lily, born on July 24, hence the "24-7" reference.

The proud-as-punch federal Liberal-National Party backbencher carefully avoided telling people his wife, Olesja, was "going into labour".

He joked that his wife "did not go into Labor and instead had a baby".

"My wife is three-centimetres dilated that's enough to worry about let alone saying she's going into labour," he said.

But the proud dad-to-be did not have anything to worry about.

Olesja was in labour only for three hours before baby Isobel arrived, tipping the scales at 3.05kg at 8am.

Mr Laming was forced to cancel visits to two Redland schools on Tuesday morning while Olesja was at Mater Private Redlands giving birth.

He was to speak about the Gonski review to teachers and staff at Redland Bay State School and Bay View State School this morning.

The Gonski review recommends spending an extra $5billion on education funding a year with $1billion in extra funding for Queensland.
