CAPALABA'S Redland Christian Spiritual Centre is pleading for the return of its handmade memorial bench that was stolen at the weekend.
Church founder Marilyn O'Sullivan said the memorial garden bench was a place to sit in contemplation and remember those whose ashes lie in the gardens.
"The bench was very special to the church community as it was donated by four of its members to honour those members who have passed away," she said.
"One of the members, passed away recently at the age of 101 and his ashes have yet to be placed in the gardens by his widow, whose is 92.
"It was lovingly crafted by another church member who has since lost most of his sight."
A $100 reward has been offered for the recovery of the bench, which was made of mahogany hardwood and was bolted to the veranda.
The bench is 2.6 metres long by one metre wide. It has two aluminium plaques on the back honouring the craftsman, Stewart Murray, of Scotland, and the financial donors.

Three men were seen loitering in the backyard of a house in Susan Street at 10pm on Friday, July 20. Police and the dog squad were called but were unable to find the men. Nothing from the house was stolen.

Thirty-two classroom windows were smashed at the Victoria Point State High School between 4.30pm on Friday, July 20, and 6.30am on Monday, July 23. The vandals smashed the windows to four separate buildings. Nothing was reported stolen.
Chandler
A house in London Road was broken into between 7pm and 9.30pm on Sunday, July 22. A handbag, make-up and jewellery were stolen after the thieves jemmied open a door.
