Hungry schoolkids, Redland's homeless and families waiting outside the Cleveland Magistrates Court will now be able to receive free tea and coffee under shade thanks to a $1550 donation to the Rock Christian Church's street van.
Church administrator Adrienne Keygan said the welcome donation was thanks to the Cleveland Branch of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and the Redlands Lions Club.
"CBA nominated us for a generous donation of $1000 to be spent on equipment to enable us to continue our work helping the community," she said.
Ms Keygan said SuperRv Australia, a Yatala-based company, donated the shortfall in price, free installation and a discount on lights and sandbags.
"This purchase was enabled by another donation of $550 from The Lions Club and we will also purchase a marquee for our Foodlink service with the balance for their donation," she said.
The street van attends the Wynnum and Cleveland court houses every Monday morning to provide free tea, coffee and biscuits to family members waiting to attend court cases.
"We are planning to attend on Wednesday and Friday mornings as well," she said.
"Also the young adults of our church community are taking the street van out to meet up with and provide practical help such as food and drinks to the homeless in the Redlands area."
She said youth pastor Mike Rubio had also recently arranged to provide breakfasts to pupils at a school in Capalaba every Tuesday morning.
"So the swing awning will provide better shelter during these cold winter months."
The Rock also operates a food service, where those in the Redlands who are feeling the financial pressure of day-to-day living can access inexpensive food and grocery items.
For $40 (process and handling), people can choose from a large range of items, to make up a substantial family-size parcel.
Twelve months' access to this service is available with $10 for client membership. Pick up is available from The Rock Christian Church, 37 Neumann Road, Capalaba; phone 3823 3572. Opening hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 2pm.
A church service is held at 9.30am on Sundays.
