French fun at Bayview

BAYVIEW State School was awash with red, white and blue recently when the school celebrated its own version of Bastille Day.

Bastille Day is Frances's national holiday that marks the storming of the Bastille Prison on July 13, 1789.

Highlighting the event was a can-can performance by three Year 7 students, who were joined onstage with six French costume dressed teachers, including school principal Peter Black.

Mr Black's costume of a pink feather boa, can-can skirt and sequined corset burst all of the students into unstoppable laughter.

The laughter continued long after the performance which prompting an encore performance.

French language teacher and organiser David Sinon said Bastille Day was a reward for the students to celebrate their hard work in learning French.

"They have worked very hard in class and deserve a day like this," he said.

"The dance was certainly a highlight, I'm sure they'll remember it."
