Tom's king of the bantams

BREEDING and showing poultry is an unusual hobby for an 18-year-old, but Tom Hall, of Sheldon, takes it all in his stride.

Tom has been a poultry fancier all his life and this year will take his hobby to another level when he becomes a first time exhibitor at the Brisbane Exhibition.

Tom will exhibit three Japanese bantams and a Chinese Silky bantam, all finely selected from his small range of 12.

"I only have 12 now, but about a year ago I had around 80. I am downsizing because we are moving on to a commercial poultry operation and these varieties are cannot make the move because of regulatons."

This, however, will not stop Tom maintaining his interests in poultry.

"My grandad at Redland Bay has agreed to take on my birds and I will keep about a dozen."

The former Victoria Point High School student has exhibited his birds at the Beaudesert Show, where he won a first and a second, and plans to be on the winners' list at the Ekka.
